STAYTON — Regis High School celebrated another event during its 50-year anniversary.

The school's chapel was incorporated into the administration building when the school was built in 1963. But the place of prayer and liturgy was never officially named.

With the renovations over the summer, and the occasion of the anniversary, school officials thought it seemed opportune to honor the school’s patron, Christ the King. And so now, Regis has the Christ the King Chapel.

Earlier this month, students, faculty and staff convened for Mass and a naming ceremony that was led by Father Ed Coleman of Immaculate Conception Parish here.

Con-celebrating were Father James Herrera of Immaculate Conception, Msgr. Gregory Moys from St. Paul, Msgr. Timothy Murphy from Central Catholic, Father Mark Bentz from St. Pius X Parish and a 2004 Regis graduate, Msgr. Carl Gimpl of Our Lady of Lourdes in Jordan and Father Paul Mawazo Materu from St. Boniface in Sublimity.

At the end of Mass, Principal Joni Gilles invited Msgr. Murphy to join the captains of the Regis football team in a “Go Rams,” cheer in support of  the Central Catholic Rams who were about to play in a championship football game. The Rams of Central Catholic ended up winning the 6A title, while Regis football took second in the 2A division.

A Regis 50th year reunion is set for Aug. 9.
