MILWAUKIE — La Salle Prep students this fall planted 34 Western Red cedars on campus. Almost 90 students from Carie Coleman’s biology classes volunteered to help with the planting on the sunny day. In total, 122 volunteers contributed to the effort.
Collier Arbor Care’s Terrill and Janet Collier, along with sons Logan (a 2007 La Salle graduate) and Quentin (a La Salle sophomore), sponsored Friends of Trees for the event and provided mulch to ensure the trees have a healthy start.
La Salle’s Booster Club coordinated a donation drive last spring to cover the cost of the trees, which were planted along the southern fence line of the school. Friends of Trees underwrote the cost of locating utilities to prevent conflicts and digging of the holes. The organization also provided volunteer expertise to help La Salle students plant the trees.
