Marist High School in Eugene held it’s 12th annual Freshman Lock-In last month. The all-night event helps students develop new friendships. The event is presented by Marist’s Christian Leadership Class and led by seniors. Freshmen are dropped off at 8 p.m. on a Saturday and picked up the next day at 7 a.m.

Students stay up all night to participate in games, eat, brave unique Marist activities, eat, create a music video, and eat.

“I had an awesome time at the midnight Mass and the dance party was pretty rad," says freshman Austin Gregory. "But I also enjoyed hanging out with new friends.”

Senior Alexis Cross said, “As a leader I loved being able to play a part in the freshman experience at Marist with the hope that their whole experience at Marist is as great as the one that I’ve had.”

Lock-In Coordinator and Theology Teacher Chad DePaoli reports that the event was a success. There were 115 freshmen — 96 percent of the class — with the help of 64 student leaders and 29 staff members.
