Father Tim Mockaitis blesses preschoolers and their classroom at the start of the new school year.
School began this month for 136 children in pre-K through fifth grade. There are 92 families at the school, including a number from now-closed St. Mary School in Albany. Staff say they are delighted to welcome the Albany families.
There are four new staff members. Mary Turner is in the office assisting Joyce Ashford as an administrative assistant. Stephanie Anderson is the new kindergarten teacher, while Kaelynn Patton has moved to pre-K. Eduardo Lara is new custodian.
The school introduced art a separate class last year. Bethany Ayres is teacher.
Queen of Peace is busy preparing for its fourth Western Catholic Education Association accreditation visit in December.
Workers will be replacing the school's roof. Funds for the project came from an anonymous donor and from the parish.
The year began with a family picnic at which new families and returning ones got acquainted. That was followed by an ice cream social to begin the parish's 50th anniversary.
