Putting the finishing touches on a newly remodeled classroom has been a labor of love for kindergarten teacher Megan Rensberger.

“I feel excited and blessed to have the opportunity to work in this updated classroom and provide a safe and welcoming space for each of my students,” Rensberger says.

The updated classroom includes a new courtyard entrance, new ceiling and lighting, new floors, new cubbies for each Kindergarten student, and new countertops with abundant cabinets.

At the last auction, parish and school families raised paddles to fund this project and others, including front entryway renovation, multiple security upgrades and new office space for instructional aides.

Expansion and transformation are key words this year at Christ the King. As the school approaches its 50th anniversary in 2014, facility upgrades have become a high priority.

With the support of Msgr. Richard Paperini, pastor, the school has set out on a three-year plan to upgrade and remodel classrooms for grades 1-5 and add independently controlled heating and cooling in all classrooms to replace the aging boiler. The classroom renovation project will be funded with proceeds from the next jog-a-thon and auction paddle-raise.

Christ the King parents and students have welcomed nine new staff members. Megan Thyken will teach fifth grade. Jennifer Derr, Christina Castaneda, Tina Eggen and Shannon Rohrer are instructional aides, along with Marri Ashley, who will also teach health. Lise Stephens teaches Spanish. Joseph English teaches middle school language arts and social studies and Melanie McCaffrey is in the events department.

The doors opened to a near capacity student body.
