Sarah Hemmen and Margaret Rutledge are new teachers at St. James School in McMinnville.
Sarah Hemmen is the new pre-3-year-old teacher. The 4-year-old class is expanding to five days a week. Having moved here in June from Texas, Sarah is married and the mother of a 5-month-old boy named Luke. She previously taught kindergarten for six years. Her hobbies are running and reading.
Margaret Rutledge is the new Spanish teacher, working eight hours a week. About 15 years ago she volunteered at St. James for seven years. She is married to Richard and lives in Beaverton. Her hobbies are rescuing lost dogs, teaching English as a second language and genealogy.
“Envisions for K-5," a new math series that comes highly recommended from the Archdiocese of Portland schools department, is now in place at St. James. It involves hands-on work and new technology. Teachers are excited to use it.
“St. James School is a fun place to learn because we are like a large loving family," says Jeananne Bloudek, the principal. "We have parent involvement and a good sense of community.”
