New priest celebrates home Mass
|Fr. John Marshall|
PENDLETON –Father John Marshall, recently ordained for service in the Archdiocese of Portland, returned to his hometown to celebrate Mass in his childhood church, St. Mary Parish.
Marshall, 35, was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s. His great-grandfather Paul Perard helped build the church in the early 1910s.
Marshall remembers one religious sister who served at St. Mary’s who predicted he would someday become a clergyman.
“She would point at our family’s pew and say, ‘He’s going to be a priest, he’s going to be a priest.’ And she was pointing at me,” Marshall told his hometown newspaper, the East Oregonian.
