EUGENE — Marist High School will graduate 109 seniors in the class of 2013.
Graduation begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8 in the Marist gym. Jeanette Herro, Marist math teacher, will be commencement speaker. Baccalaureate Mass is set for 7 p.m. Friday, June 7 at St. Paul Church, 1201 Satre St.
Valedictorian is Brooke Gemmell, daughter of Julie and Robert Gemmell. She plans to attend the University of California at Berkeley to study civil engineering. Gemmell was involved in student government, planning events like ultimate frisbee and "Bring Your Blanket to School Day." She was an energetic member of Proclaim Worship choir and played Audrey in Marist’s production of “Little Shop of Horrors.” Gemmell was on varsity soccer and varsity cross country as well as the varsity lacrosse team, where she was captain her junior and senior years. She loves to rollerblade, climb trees, and play music with her brothers.
Salutatorian is Monica Anderson, daughter of Curtis Anderson and Linda Zang. She will attend the Oregon State University Honors College this fall, where she will run cross country and track and field and expand her love for learning and adventures. She plans to major in zoology en route to becoming a holistic equine veterinarian, and hopes to travel and serve the world. At Marist, Anderson spent hours editing the school newspaper, running cross country, and serving in Heart to Heart Club.
