BEAVERTON — St. Cecilia School will graduate its 100th class. A graduation Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 11, at St. Cecilia Church.
In light of the event, eighth-grade students were asked to reflect on and write about: “What memory(ies) during your time at St. Cecilia School would you document and include in a time capsule that would be of interest to future students?"
“The first day of kindergarten, we all brought stuffed animals," one student wrote. "I brought my horse Jack; Brianna also brought her horse. From that day on, we were best friends forever. Later that same day, we met Joey, and we became the characters from the old show, 'That’s So Raven.' We are still great friends."
“The St. Cecilia community was like family," wrote another student. "I had transferred from another school. I remember walking into the classroom and knowing that this was the right choice. The community would rally around you and pray for you to help through tough times."
Another student recalled when classmate Alena Marek died, and how inspiring it was to see community members working together to hold a fundraising garage sale that would cover some of Alena's medical expenses.
Other memorable events and activities included experiencing the 1800s in first grade, making butter; zoo field trips with eighth-grade Big Buddies and first-grade Little Buddies; Outdoor School and Science Camp with skits, singing, plus peace and quiet; leadership and life skills; student council; debate; technology; and inspirational words and gifts of wisdom from last year's graduates.
