Jesuit junior aces ACT

Varun Sah, a junior at Jesuit High School, achieved a perfect score of 36 on the ACT college admission exam. Less than one-tenth of one percent of students in a given graduating class achieve the top score. Among ACT-tested US high school graduates in the class of 2012, only 781 out of more than 1.66 million students earned a composite score of 36.

Paul Hogan, the principal at Jesuit, calls the accomplishment "awe-inspiring."
"Varun has been an academic star ever since he began with us as a freshman," Hogan says.

Sah took it in a scholarly way.

"I am pleasantly surprised by the perfect score," he said. "Jesuit High School has provided me with the opportunity to stretch myself academically and grow personally."

Sah achieved honors at the 2012 US National Chemistry Olympiad. He is captain of the Jesuit science bowl team that placed third in the largest regional competition in the nation. He is also a student leader of the Jesuit math club and captain of the Jesuit varsity chess team. Sah has held research internships at Oregon Health Sciences University and Intel during summer. While he has not finalized his plans for area of study in college, he plans to major in computer science, engineering or mathematics.
