A team of Jesuit High School students recently placed third in a regional science bowl. Jesuit fielded two teams at the BPA Regional Science Bowl, hosted by the University of Portland Feb. 2.
Both teams have been practicing since mid-September. Team 1 — junior Varun Sah, sophomores Drew Cannon and Uma Doshi, and freshman Andrew Bai — took third place overall in a field of 65 teams from Oregon and Washington. Team 2 — seniors Taylor Sutton and Jeffrey Zhang, and sophomores Joseph Chen and Jonathan Ho — finished with a two and four record.
“Congratulations to all the participants,” said Brad Schaal, science teacher and mentor. “With this much talent we should be competitive well into the future.”
Vancouver's Mountain View High for the second year took first place in the competition and Catlin Gabel High took second place. The competition, started in 1992 by Bonneville Power Administration, is the largest regional science bowl in the nation, organizers say.
