ASTORIA — Parish leaders at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Church are using the grassroots planning techniques they learned at the Archdiocese of Portland’s Pastoral Assembly in November at the parish level. At the assembly, the group employed a series of moderated discussions to help identify common challenges.
“The process was both effective and efficient in getting an accurate measure of the spiritual life of the archdiocese at the parish level,” Father Ken Sampson said in a letter to the parish. “So much so that we have decided to try to replicate the process for our local faith community.”
Parishioners were sent home with a “parish report card,” which they returned with input on how the parish can better meet the spiritual needs of its members.
