Alumnus estate gives UP $444,000

The University of Portland has received a gift of $444,000 from the late William Isaac Phillips, an alumnus who died last year 2012. The donation will establish a scholarship fund in the College of Arts and Sciences. Phillips attended the University of Portland on the G.I. bill and in 1950 graduated with honors with a bachelor’s degree in physics.

In 1966, he established Western Technical Sales with a home office in Bellevue, Wash., and later opened offices in Portland and Spokane. He and wife Marilyn lived in La Conner, Wash.
