TUALATIN — The actual performance was about three minutes, but that was all the time necessary for the Valley Catholic High School Charisma dance team, to make history by taking the second place trophy in the small modern dance category at the Dance and Drill Coaches Association Fall Category Championships at Tualatin High School in December.

This is the first time a Charisma team has placed at the “by invitation only’ fall championship since its inception four years ago, and the only time that a team from the 3A/2A/1A ranks has done so. Dancing to The Civil War’s song Poison and Wine, the team posted a score of 80 points, the highest score ever earned by the Charisma dancers during the fall category dance season. The Westview Wildthings from Beaverton won the championship and the Rex Putnam Royal Crowns from Milwaukie finished third. To qualify for the Fall Championships, a team had to place first or second at one of the fall competitions and receive a qualifying score of at least 65 points.
