Born in the small logging town of Libby, Mont., from a young age Arden Albertini knew he was destined to go into the family business of education. After completing four years of college at Montana State, he attended Portland State University for his fifth year of schooling. He then began teaching at St. John Fisher School in Southwest Portland. This year marks Arden’s 31st year of teaching at the school.
Early in the morning, he is the first one to arrive at the school.
“Even after 30 years, each day brings something new,” he says.
During the day you will find him in his third grade classroom. This is where his students read books, make art projects and learn new things about the world. Throughout the year, they visit OMSI and the Portland Art Museum, as well as attend a play at the Oregon Children’s Theater. He has taught several generations of families at the school.
“I try to create an atmosphere where each student will feel successful, safe, and enjoy coming to school,” Albertini says.
He has a love of the arts and volunteers for the Portland Art Museum and the Portland Center for Performing Arts. Someday, after teaching, he would like to continue this work, assist charities such as Meal on Wheels, and travel.
