They know government, Constitution

The Constitution team from Central Catholic is heading to state.
Central Catholic students are headed to the "We the People" state competition for the first time after clinching a wildcard spot at the District Competition at Lake Oswego High School Jan. 9.
The 18-person team led by social studies teacher Geoffrey Stuckart has been attending weekly meetings and rehearsing arguments. A dozen parents and community members who are lawyers, clerks and judges have volunteered to coach. The state competition will be held Jan. 19 at the Hatfield Federal Courthouse in downtown Portland.
The "We the People" program is a competition based on knowledge of government and the U.S. Constitution. The competition itself is designed to mimic the form of a congressional hearing, with students acting as expert witnesses.
In preparation for competitions, students spend time examining government and the Constitution from multiple perspectives. In addition to presenting prepared remarks, students answer questions from a panel of judges.
