Catholic Worker veteran to speak at UP

University of Portland will host activist, author, and cook Jeff Dietrich at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24. Dietrich will present “Broken and Shared: Tales from a Hippie Kitchen.” The presentation will be held in the Executive Boardroom on campus.

For more than 40 years, Dietrich has lived at the Los Angeles Catholic Worker House in solidarity with the poor. Through his efforts, three million meals have been provided to people who are homeless on L.A.’s Skid Row. He is the author of a set of essays, Broken and Shared: Food, Dignity, and the Poor on LA’s Skid Row.
