Daily reflection part of life at Jesuit High
Throughout Advent and Lent, everything at Jesuit High School stops each afternoon for five minutes. During that small part of fifth period, students are asked to do a kind of prayer the Jesuits' founder devised almost five centuries ago. It's the examen, prayerful reflection to detect God’s presence and discern God's direction for us. St. Ignatius, founder of the Jesuits, told his men to perform the prayer daily.
Students are taught to center themselves and become aware of God's presence, review the day with gratitude, pay attention to emotions and ways the Holy Spirit is moving in one's life, choose one feature of the day and pray about it and look toward tomorrow.
