Dancing of all sorts admired at Tigard school

Middle schoolers at St. Anthony School here can learn to waltz and foxtrot along with reading, writing, arithmetic and religion. Students give high marks to the instructors, who are the two seventh grade teachers.

Several St. Anthony students take dance lessons outside of school. Jenelle Gaerlan is among them. She participated in the Spotlight Dance Cup nationals held at Seaside this summer, having a good first year competing in dance. At nationals Gaerlan took second place in the junior category. She earned first prize at the Dance Down where more than 100 dancers participate for scholarships and other prizes. Her prizes include a scholarship to a workshop with Disneyland choreographers. She'll perform in a Disney show and two parades. One more thing — free admission to Disneyland for an entire week.
