TUALATIN — St. André Bessette Church and Resurrection Church here are co-hosting the first annual Homeless Awareness Dinner Saturday, Oct. 27. The dinner will be served at Samaritan Lodge #2, 10282 SE Main St., in Milwaukie.
Leaders from St. André Bessette will lead a presentation on the issues of homelessness. The Downtown Portland parish offers healing and hospitality to its neighbors who are surviving poverty, homelessness, mental illness and addiction.
“The needs of the homeless are extreme and immediate,” said Dick Akins, who coordinates a sleeping bag drive every year at his parish.
Two sittings will be offered – 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Menu will be the same food as offered to the homeless at St. Andre Bessette, prepared by volunteers from Resurrection.
The cost of the dinner is a tax deductible gift of $20 per household for the purchase of a sleeping bag for the homeless and $5 per family member attending the event for the cost of the meal.
Sponsors of the dinner are Resurrection Knights of Columbus Council #13851, Mt. Scott/Star Lodge #188, Omaha Woodmen Lodge #1946, Oregon State Fraternal Congress, Rose City Camp #77, Samaritan Lodge #2, and West Linn Lions Club.
