MILWAUKIE — La Salle Prep has welcomed 180 new freshmen, helping make the 2012-13 school year the largest enrollment in school history.
La Salle is also adding 10 more students to its Signum Fidei program, in addition to 12 new faculty members. The school will be adding Mandarin Chinese as its fourth world language option. La Salle has also converted to a wireless campus and is again adding technology classes.
To continue to honor the Lasallian call to respond to the poor and overcome injustice, this year La Salle students will focus on criminal justice after last year looking at childhood poverty.
The athletics teams will get the chance to play in front of nearly 1,000 fans in the new grandstand. There is also a new concession stand which sits next to the new 9,000-square-foot Falcon Plaza. The plaza, which has personalized engraved brick pavers, planters and seats, will be used for school gatherings, prayer service and events.
Through proceeds from the “Ernie Journey” in honor of drama teacher Ernie Casciato, the school has made improvements to the auditorium.
Growth, school officials say, has come not just in numbers and facilities, but in the mission to "inspire students to find their voice as global citizens, to put their faith into action and to lead exceptional lives of integrity, honoring the God-given dignity of all."
