Msgr. Tim Murphy discovers a bearded dragon in new video at Central Catholic High.

To help Central Catholic High School, Msgr. Tim Murphy was willing to gingerly place a rather large lizard on his head — and have the scene shot on video.

In past promotions for the Southeast Portland school's auctions, the priest has donned a flight suit, portrayed the swishy pirate Jack Sparrow and worn blue makeup and giraffe-like ears to become a creature from the film "Avatar."

"When you've got great talent like that, you have to use it as much as you can," says Matt Horne, the school's student activities director and video producer. "Deep down inside, he likes doing it. He does roll his eyes sometimes and give me that Msgr. Murphy look — but he always does it."

Also acting in the annual short films is John Harrington, president of Central Catholic. Often, the film shows the two men struggling to keep up with the fast pace of modern times.

There is also a cast of students. When a student appears, the scene freezes and impressive facts about the young person flash on the screen.

Horne admires the rapport that Harrington and Msgr. Murphy have with the 800 students on campus. Students help shoot the films, which are posted on sites like YouTube and Vimeo. Horne's assistant David Hutson also works on production.

The little film has not gone viral, but got 300 hits the first day. To see the video, go to centralcatholichigh.org or vimeo.com/40459466.
