Mock Trial state champions from Jesuit High celebrate their win.

A Mock Trial team from Jesuit High placed first in state and is headed to nationals in New Mexico in early May.

Both of the school's teams finished at the top of the Multnomah County regionals and made it to the state championship at the Hatfield Federal Courthouse. There are about 70 teams in the state, and more than 1,000 competitors. The state championship included 18 teams from places like Baker, Medford and Grants Pass.

The fictitious case at issue concerned a woman burned by coffee from a restaurant.

Members of the winning Jesuit team are Natalie Johnson, Claire Pahlmeyer, Saloni Shah, Colin Dunn, Sarah Freepons, Conor Hogan, Christina Gill, Kirby Bell, Patrick Roy and Jacquelyn Ulum.

Helping are five attorney-coaches — all parents of past or present Jesuit students — plus Chris Smart, vice principal of student life and Paul Hogan, vice principal of academics.
