BAKER CITY — Many people who visit St. Francis de Sales Cathedral are not aware of the day chapel behind the church where Mass is celebrated three times a week. Local parishioner John Fuzi built the chapel, a project that he started in 2004. The chapel opened officially in spring 2005, just before Father Julian Cassar arrived as pastor.

The day chapel houses four stained-glass windows, crafted by the Conrad Schmidt Co., depicting the Divine Mercy, St. Jude, St. Therese of Lisieux and Our Lady of Lourdes. The chapel was recently re-painted by another parishioner, Art Corona, and it was blessed again during one of the daily Masses.

Adoration is held every Friday in the chapel, starting with Mass at 6 a.m., and ending at 3 p.m. with the Divine Mercy chaplet and benediction.
