Have you ever had a pen pal from a different generation? The kids at St. Clare school do.
Last month, fifth graders from St. Clare School visited residents at Mary’s Woods Retirement Community, whom they've had pen pal relationships. Students were excited to meet their new friends and enjoyed chatting with them.
In celebration of Christmas, the students recited and performed the story, The Twelve Prayers of Christmas, by Candy Chand for the residents. The book tells the story of Jesus’ birth from the perspective of 12 different characters. Following the presentation, the fifth graders sang Christmas carols, as well as their own rendition of “Go Tell It On the Mountain.”
“The kids from St. Clare are always so wonderful,” said director of activities at Mary's Woods, Hank Knowlen.
For the past several years, the fifth grade class at St. Clare School has participated in this service project. Through the project, students have learned how to nurture a relationship with an elderly friend.
