Students, staff and parents at St. Cecilia School are embracing the school’s theme for the year —“Let Your Light Shine!” The goal?  To celebrate the God-given gifts of students by celebrating the ways their “lights” shine.

“Our families, along with the faculty and staff, are thrilled with all that this school year promises,” says principal Sue Harris.  “The direction in which we are going is what makes St. Cecilia special.  We are excited about taking an already strong foundation and building on that in unique and progressive ways.”

Additions to the school’s offerings include:  a new student government model; new electives; a revamped schedule for enhanced core curriculum; K-8 service outreach; and health-conscious adjustments to the lunch program.

Perhaps the most impressive venture is the pilot program, “Operation: Lighten Your Load.” The school provides each eighth grader with his or her own NOOK Color e-reader, fully loaded with digitally downloaded textbooks. The program, the first of its kind nationally, uses cutting-edge technology, and literally “lightens the load” of the student.  No more heavy backpacks…simply a lightweight, journal-sized tool that is user-friendly, secure and portable.
