Seancarlos Gonzalez shows a prayer he wrote to promote family unity.
A Mass of the Holy Spirit began the school year. The Missionaries of the Holy Spirit joined Father Michael Vuky in celebrating the opening.
The rural school counts 95 students in kindergarten through eighth grade. The preschool will be starting the year with 15 students.
Seventh and eighth graders led the school with an opening prayer and raising of a new flag to start the year. The students and staff this year will be focusing on prayer.
Seancarlos Gonzalez, a seventh grader, is being highlighted as an example of a faith-filled Christian. Seancarlos and his family were visiting Puerto Rico where many of his relatives live. During the course of the summer, he wrote two prayers: one, a novena for the country of Puerto Rico and the other for family unity, which says in part, "Make us strong that we may not allow Satan to divide us with silly arguments. On the contrary, help us to forgive each other always and to always be patient."
"The prayers are an inspiration for each of us," says Diane Ramsperger, principal at St. Francis.
