Students gather for day one at Blanchet School
SALEM — Blanchet School here kicked off its 17th year by welcoming nearly 375 students, including 83 new faces. A short schedule of classes was followed by class meetings and a celebration of Mass by Father John Henderson, vocations director of the Archdiocese of Portland.
Blanchet welcomes two new teachers. Robbe Ostby will teach sixth grade and seventh grade English. Evan Harris will teach pre-algebra I and II. Marypat Hill has joined Blanchet’s counseling department and will coordinate a mentoring program.
On Sept. 9, Blanchet hosted 200 guests to begin a fundraising campaign called “Foundation for the Future.”
Charles Lee, the school's president, announced that Blanchet has raised more than $3 million toward a $4.1 million goal. The campaign will fund priorities of the current five-year strategic plan, including upgrading technology, providing tuition aid, enhancing curriculum and renovating and constructing new facilities including a new commons building that will become the “heart” of the school as a student gathering place and cafeteria.
