Salem - Queen of Peace

The school is noting 48 years of serving, learning and growing. New families and new technology have arrived. The school has 24 new laptop computers donated by Chateau Ste. Michelle and 50 iPads from last year's auction.

The community is working on becoming a green school by hosting a Styrofoam and plastic bag recycling station, one of few in Salem.

Carl Mucken is the new second grade teacher. Last year, Mucken and wife Liz were parents at the school. He is an alumnus of St. Vincent de Paul School in Salem and Linfield University. He holds a masters in early childhood education from Western Oregon University.

Mucken taught a variety of grades at Rosedale Elementary before becoming a stay-at-home dad with triplets. Last year, he taught fifth grade at Schirle elementary. He says he is glad to teach in a small, close-knit community.
