The theme for the school year at St. Luke School here is “Fishers of Men.” Staff will be encouraging students to model Jesus and teaching them how to share their faith in a variety of ways.
The school also welcomes two new teachers to its staff. Mary Sue Haener will be teaching fourth grade. She is an alumnus of St. Luke and a recent recipient of a master’s in teaching from the University of Portland. She brings a musical background to the school.
Luke Harkness is the new middle school social studies teacher, and will also be the seventh grade homeroom teacher. He participated in the Pacific Alliance for Catholic Education program at the University of Portland. He comes to the school with two years of teaching experience at St. Francis School in Sherwood. He is originally from Olympia, Wash.
The school expects an enrollment of 160 students.
