These graduates have become spiritual people

Following an annual tradition at Archbishop Howard School in Northeast Portland, led by their teacher Barb Fisher, the graduating class of 2011 presented living Stations of the Cross. The students had the privilege of reflecting on Jesus' passion and death and writing their own prayers to share with the community.
Here is an excerpt from one of the prayers written by the students for the 7th station: “I see this man as he falls another time. This is the second time he has fallen on his journey up Mount Calvary. He knows this journey will only bring him to his death, but he gets back up because he knows that he must die to save us. I have seen this man before. He has healed the blind and cured the lame. He has done nothing but good for his people. They call him Jesus. He is the Messiah. Our Beloved Father, please help us to recognize the good in others. Help us to understand the purpose for our being brought into this world."
One of the goals at Archbishop Howard is to help students become spiritual people who love God, pray daily, know the Catholic faith, participate in liturgies, and learn to make choices consistent with the teachings of Christ.
Many 2011 graduates began their journey in Catholic education at Archbishop Howard with pre-kindergarten classroom. They became acquainted with daily prayers and attending school Masses with older students. Throughout their 10 years, the graduating class has also had the opportunity to participate in other prayer experiences, such as attending benediction and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and participating in the sacrament of reconciliation during Advent and Lent. The eighth graders have served as liturgical readers, altar servers for both school and parish Masses, gift bearers and choir participants. They have participated in daily prayer, participated in faith knowledge bowls and completed many hours of service.
