Living the Gospel life
Most of those who become Franciscans, says Franciscan Father Richard Richard Juzix, parochial vicar of St. John the Baptist Parish in Milwaukie, do so either because they develop a relationship with St. Francis or because they personally know a Franciscan who has inspired them.

In Franciscan Sister Mary Jo Chaves’ case, it was a dozen inspirational Franciscans. She grew up in Baker City and attended Catholic school there at a time when all but one of her teachers were Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia. Those sisters, who came to Baker City in 1885, also founded and staffed the town’s hospital, St. Elizabeth’s.

John Cihak, who had flown back from his post at the Vatican, at Pope Francis’ side, in order to see his father, now Deacon Michael Cihak, be ordained.
