Book talk, icon retreat set at Shalom

Here is an upcoming spiritual opportunity at Shalom Prayer Center in Mount Angel:

• The English Civil War is the subject of They Were Defeated by Rose Macaulay, the book that is the topic of a session set for 9:30 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 21. Tim Nelson and Linda Jensen lead the morning, for which there is no charge. Lunch is also free.

• "See and Listen with the Ear of your Heart" is a workshop on prayer with icons. Seen as one form of God's word, icons have been used to aid in prayer for centuries. Benedictine Sister Jeanette von Herrmann will lead the retreat, set for Friday and Saturday, April 20-21. Sister Jeanette leads Bible study groups, gives retreats, and publishes articles on spirituality. Cost is $125, or $65 for commuters. Register by April 18.

For reservations or for more information, email [email protected] or call 503-845-6773. The center is located at the Benedictine Sisters' monastery, 840 S. Main St.
