On family rituals, Lent, Francis, Clare and prayer
Here are some programs offered during March at the Franciscan Spiritual Center in Milwaukie:
• "Journeying through Lent with Francis and Clare" — Lent is a season when we consider how we might rightly expand the passion of our hearts. Francis and Clare of Assisi used this season to recommit to their passionate concern for their world, its ways and its people. The retreat will be an opportunity for participants to consider their own recommitment to their concern for the world of the 21st century. Lent is an invitation to taking in hand the whole self. The day will include reflections, personal time and shared time. Bring a lunch. It's set for Saturday March 10, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
• Lenten Taizé — Join us this Lenten season for this contemplative experience of Taizé prayer where musical phrases are repeated over and over to quiet the mind and heart in order that the song may become prayer. The ebb and flow of chanting and silence is enhanced by a scripture reading and prayer around the cross. The prayer takes place Friday March 9, 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m.
