Fr. Harry Holwell, Msgr. Art Dernbach, Fr. Dan Reynolds and Fr. Francis Chun enjoy Serra lunch for retired priests.
The Portland Serra Club promotes and fosters vocations. A lunch held in February proves that the group doesn't forget those who have served over the years.
The club organized the meal at the St. John Vianney retirement center for retired priests of the Archdiocese of Portland.
There were 32 Serrans in attendance at the catered lunch for the five priests who were able to attend. Priests gave brief autobiographies.
Father Dernbach related his duties at Central Catholic as a science teacher and later administrator, as well as his parish and archdiocesan assignments.
Father John Domin had the audience in the palm of his hand with humorous antidotes of his career as an artist.
Father Harry Holwell was next on the agenda. He was born in England, converted to Catholicism, and became a priest a later in life. He had words of advice for what types of medical procedures to avoid. The finale was Father Dan Reynolds, who served as an assistant pastor or pastor in many parishes of the archdiocese.
Serra plans to have more of the lunches in the future.
