Why push LNG?

I should think that the federally-defined liquified natural gas ship two-mile-radius hazard zones defined by the U.S. Department of Energy, that place people’s lives and property in harm’s way, would be the Catholic Sentinel’s and Father Robert Wolf’s primary concern.

Women on cash
Catholics may have heard of the movement to place the visage of a female historical figure from the U.S. on U.S. currency.  Like many, I agree the time is right.

People need to hear church environment teaching
I respectfully urge my fellow Catholics to pay less attention to well-funded media propaganda and more attention both to the consensus scientific conclusions reached by every major scientific body to study the issue, and, even more, to the moral guidance of church leaders.

More priests and religious!
We need more priests and sisters!

Boycott film
Beware! “Fifty Shades of Grey” is a film (and book) that is pornographic and very demeaning towards all women.

Unethical shots
In the recent editorial, “Get Your Shots,” the editors at the Catholic Sentinel acknowledged that several required vaccines were cultured from “human fetuses.” The editors failed to explicitly mention that those “human fetuses” were aborted children.

Frightening kids
I was saddened by the article by the 12-year-old student of St. Andrew Parish on climate change. Our youth are being frightened of a disaster that is mere speculation.

Waging peace
As a fellow war veteran and unaffiliated voter, I concur with Col. J. Fenner (letters, “Shared Blame,” 3/22) that the Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld Administration is responsible for the current state of conflict and disarray in the Middle East.

On climate
Aren’t there parameters of much greater significance to climate change than we humans can control?

Prison ministry volunteer thankful for newspapers
The inmates at the Oregon State Penitentiary really appreciate receiving the Catholic Sentinel each week.  It is a big deal to them, and they read it as soon as it comes in.

We're grateful
Our students and staff worked tirelessly to put together a forum that would not only answer important questions they had regarding police relations, but also find answers for the community.

Disappointed
There was nothing on birth control or the annulment process or other areas of real interest to some married Catholics.

Can we relate?
The straight members of the congregation will have difficulty trying to relate to these people simply because their angle is to have us accept them as they say they are, not as sinners coming to God for forgiveness like the rest of us.

Daydreams OK
Concerning the article by Father Ron Rolheiser, “Daydreaming has a potential downside,” (Feb. 20): I would like to know why the Catholic Sentinel would print such rubbish.

Vernacular fan
We are invited to participate in the Mass. How is participation possible if we are unable to pronounce our responses, much less have any idea of what we are saying?

Jarred to belief
As the article writer grasped so well, Jesus works miracles through his friends, as he did miracles himself, so that if people can believe in him for no other reason such “works”  will help “to jar people into belief” as the article writer so neatly put it.

Shared blame
As a decorated veteran and a politically unaffiliated voter,  I hope I speak for hundreds of thousands of patriotic Americans when I ask, “How much moral responsibility do former Vice President Cheney, former Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld, former President George W. Bush, as well as Democrats and Republicans in Congress, share for getting us into this awful mess in the first place?”

Praying the rosary can achieve many good ends
We have the power to stop the evil and unrest in the world right now in our hands. Say the rosary! Think of the power it holds when if before Saturday night and Sunday Masses, a half-hour could be reserved for all to say the rosary together.

Look to past
The latest influx of immigrants, refugees and exiles is a consequence of Dwight Eisenhower’s “bracero laws” that induced in a low-wage labor pool for menial work.

Be consistent
But where are the condemnations of war? Condemnations of a Congress that slashes needed food assistance for those very mothers who chose not to have an abortion? These are pro-life issues.

Think freedom
Political satire is of course, nothing new, nor is endangering basic human freedoms, such as freedom of expression.
