A woman prays after releasing a paper lantern on a river on Hiroshima during commemoration of atomic bomb victims.
To the Catholic Sentinel:
Attending the Hiroshima Remembrance Day in Portland Aug. 6, the 69th anniversary of the U.S. atom bomb attack, I remembered that the popes, bishops, and the Catechism have repeatedly emphasized the immorality of nuclear weapons.
Plans for nuclear weapons could cost American taxpayers $640 billion over the next decade. That’s $2,000 for each American. Social programs are being cut and poverty is a problem. What should Catholics do? What would Jesus do?
