Seeking peace is hard work

To the Catholic Sentinel:

There’s a despondency in the culture of Catholicism which is dangerous. Parishioners and leaders alike are opting for silence rather than speaking out. Our Lady of Good Success warned us that Church leaders won’t act. Jesus told us we must lay down our lives for our friends.

There is a fallacy among Portlanders that Christian love is silence and the product is peace. This fallacy is not as prevalent in Catholic societies where there is a greater population of minorities who have had to fight for their civil rights over past decades, such as Compton, Calif.

Peacekeeping is hard work, justice-seeking, prayerful, organizing, and fruitful actions with the Peace of Christ always in heart and mind, and especially, adoration, daily Mass, rosary, faith, hope and love.

A good question, brother James. With you, I will await a response.

Let me start by asking whether posting a comment on this on-line site has any purpose, if the writer of the Letter sends it to the print edition and may not even know the web site exists. In other words, will Anna even see my comment, much less respond?
If yes, I wonder on what basis she is describing this "fallacy" as true of Portland, and what Compton has to do with her critique. Given the news from Missouri and east Portland this past few days, peace and quiet seem to be seriously lacking.
