A saint and ancestor of good Catholics

To the Catholic Sentinel:
Ed Langlois’ article on Portland’s Nguyen family, descendants of 19th-century Vietnamese lay martyr, St. Matthew Nguyen Van Phuong, tickled me.
Since members of the Nguyen family are now Americans, I’m going to consider St. Matthew as one of our country’s saints.
What I especially like about St. Matthew is his begetting people who would go on to produce children — and good Catholics at that.
If you are a saint-watcher like me you may have noticed that home-grown holy people like St. Katharine Drexel, Venerable Solanus Casey or even St. Elizabeth Ann Seton — a mother of five — have no knack for begetting descendants, let alone those who will keep the line going.
Have I just discovered another reason to applaud the riches our newer brothers and sisters bring America?
