5/20/2014 3:54:00 PM Stop complaining and work for change
To the Catholic Sentinel:
As a candidate for election to the Oregon House of Representatives, many people have confided to me that they are just too disgusted with politics to participate in the process. Some complain that the Republican Party is too liberal, while others believe the Democrats are too conservative.
There are many important issues facing us. Take abortion, for instance. According to Oregon’s Department of Human Services, there were 12,246 abortions in Oregon in 2006. This means that one small life is extinguished each hour. This corresponds to losing a community the size of Monmouth and Dallas every year. No wonder we’re losing our tax base.
There are plenty of other critical issues worthy of attention. If you lack courage to take a public stand for what you believe today, then you are in no position to express your displeasure tomorrow. Failure to become involved in the political process means you have surrendered your right to legitimately complain.
Do you want to be a complainer or a person who brings about positive change in your state or community? The choice is yours, but I suggest you take a stand for what you believe and support those candidates who share your Catholic values.
