Pope Francis shakes hands with Russian President Vladimir Putin during a private audience at the Vatican last fall.

To the Catholic Sentinel:

With the controversy over Russia’s anti-gay laws still reverberating, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that even though spectators who are LGBT are welcome to the Sochi Winter Olympics, they should “leave the children at peace.”

Mr. Putin did bring up a valid point.  Minors, once they are old enough to understand human sexuality, should explore their individual sexuality entirely on their own.

However, discrimination against any group should not be tolerated at all.

On a local level, the State of Oregon ruled in favor of a same-sex couple who accused a Gresham bakery of discriminating against them on basis of their sexual orientation. Likely the owners of the bakery will appeal, using the First Amendment as a defense.

If you believe there should be a federal law that prohibits discrimination against any group, consider contacting members of Congress to ask them to support a new Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

If you believe otherwise, consider this verse: “Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.” {John 13:16}
