In our system, all need to contribute to benefit

To the Catholic Sentinel:

Marxism v. Capitalism

Evangelii Gaudium includes criticisms of the “idolatry of money” and global wealth inequality. Right-wing media responded to the Pope’s writings as having “gone beyond Catholicism” and into “pure Marxism.”  Somebody has either written this for him or gotten to him, some theorized.

Pope Francis is from Argentina, one of the poor countries in South America. Most of those countries are “capitalists.” We should distinguish the “true capitalism” countries in the North America (U.S., Canada) or Europe (France, England, etc.) with the “fake capitalism” from South America (Mexico, Argentina, etc.) as well as the communist countries such as China and Vietnam. The major difference between two capitalisms is the law to protect the economy: The law that protects those who have power or the law which protects the “fair game” for everybody.

I am happy to live in the “true capitalism” country of the U.S.A. In this country there are opportunities for everyone and it is not free; the opportunities are available but one has to work hard to get them. I came to the U.S. as a refugee in 1975 without any money, I had to work hard at some dirty jobs such as dishwasher or as a janitor cleaning toilets in a hospital to support myself and to pay for school tuition.

At the same time my classmates were enjoying sports or relaxing. Living in the “true capitalism” countries, everyone has to contribute to the system.

God bless America.
