Oregon Shakespeare Festival
Scene from 'The Liquid Plain' that offended two priests in attendance.
To the Catholic Sentinel:
I appreciate that the Catholic Sentinel gave prominent space to Father James Coleman’s response to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. I also read the on-line comments of Bill Rauch, the artistic director of the festival. While I applaud the principle of inclusivity that Mr. Rauch mentions, there is no excuse for derogatory language toward the Christian God.
Christians have been taking hits against our faith for decades. We have the right to be informed of the content chosen by the artistic director, and the responsibility to respond according to our consciences and the precepts of the Church. Father Coleman has done so, and I am proud that he has done so.
