To the Catholic Sentinel:

This refers to Gordon Dickey’s letter that asks whether we made Iraq safer?

Thank you, brother Gordon, for the updated figures on the Iraq War.  The costs of war in dollars is still being calculated.  The cost of war in lives is incalculable.  This debt will accrue indefinitely and can never be repaid.

This is why Jesus rebuked his disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane, “Stop, no more of this!”  Thirty years ago, the Catholic bishops issued a Pastoral Letter on War and Peace: The Challenge of Peace:  God’ Promise and our Response.  Our pastors need to raise their voice again, and we must respond.
