Catholic News Service
Pope Benedict XVI and U.S. President George W. Bush listen as the U.S. national anthem is played during a ceremony on the South Lawn of the White House in 2008 in Washington.
To the Catholic Sentinel:
The letter criticizing George Bush does not put history into its proper context. Nor does it mention the name of Democratic President Barack Hussein Obama. It does not mention that Obama rehired Bush’s Secretary of Defense, maintained the military presence in Iraq and Afghanistan, and kept Bush’s military withdrawal deadlines.
The letter acts like Mr. Obama never existed. In criticizing the former president, the letter writer never mentions the 9/11 attack. One can be a conservative and a Roman Catholic. To pretend otherwise is wrong.
