Liberal? Maybe. Sensitive? Yes!
To the Catholic Sentinel:
The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that “God alone is the Lord of life from its beginning until its end; no one can under any circumstance claim for himself the right directly to destroy an innocent human being.”
The Commandment, "You shall not kill," includes abortion, civilian and military homicide, capital punishment and euthanasia.
By suggesting that non-life issues bear equal weight in any debate, we must admit that our words and actions concerning these issues have profound implications for social structures, for moral and ethical considerations, and for the psyches of women and men.
We should do all in our power to provide a “middle way” between the extremists who inhabit both ends of the pro-life/pro-choice spectrum.
On another matter, regarding Lynette Sproul’s letter,“If that’s being a liberal, count me in”:
“What is liberal?” If it is one who dreads. One who abhors... One who is tired. If it is liberal to want equality of life. If it includes one weary. Then I must be liberal. Am I liberal because I’d (fill in this blank)? Liberal? Maybe. Sensitive? Yes!
I will gather with you in compassion and acceptance for all.
