Lying is not justifiable here

To the Catholic Sentinel:
Pro-life activist Lila Rose tried to justify the tactics of “Live Action,” a group that uses “sting” operations that involve false identities and statements by undercover actors, to unmask the lies of the abortion industry and lobby. Rose rationalized on EWTN that such methods were ethical because investigative reporters employ the same tactics to get to the “truth.” This is to dismiss the fact that objective truth is not subject to a majority vote:.
Not unlike the abortion activists she opposes, Rose also resorts to euphemisms like “acting” and “investigative reporting” in place of lying. This in itself is a lie.
Rose’s arguments can thus be reduced to a series of false assumptions and to the consequentialist idea that the ends justify the means. Her arguments betray a certain lack of faith in God to bring about His Divine Will and achieve His ends independent of our human actions.
As faithful followers of Christ we are called to live in the truth. Thus, we are precluded from lying. Jesus tells us that it is the truth that will free us. He rightly admonishes us to “Say, ‘Yes’ when [we] mean ‘Yes,’ and ‘No’ when [we] mean ‘No.’ Anything beyond that is from the evil one.”
