We sometimes negate the good we do

To the Catholic Sentinel:

This letter concerns the preaching by Pope Francis, to the effect that “Hypocrisy devalues Christian message.” How true. Jesus practiced the love that he preached. So should his church.

The good that we do (immigration, peace, poverty, respect for life, human rights) is offset by the abuse of children and the handling of the problem, attempts to silence theologians, mistreatment of American nuns, Vatican intrigue and mismanagement, etc. “See how they love one another” has to do with action, not words (“see,” not “hear.”)
