Pope a good example
Catholic News Service
Pope Francis holds cross during Chrism Mass in Rome.
To the Catholic Sentinel:
A new pontiff is chosen and my faith is restored.
We have a pope who represents attributes that even among the clergy are rare. I stopped my daily yard cleaning routine to watch the new pope. His sense of self was evident to the cameras. I did not have to be convinced that this is the man to lead the Catholic Church worldwide. “He is known to ride the bus and make his own meals.” He ”turned down all the perks that came with his former job as a cardinal.”
When I heard those words, I listened more intently. I focused on the new pope and the massive crowd Their smiles, tears and faces expressing joy transmitted to me a message of hope!
He used common language and said that the cardinals had selected a person from far away; meaning far away from the Basilica and Rome. He blessed the crowd and the world and invited the public to pray “El Padre Nuestro,” The Lord’s Prayer, and asked the crowd to pray for him. The simplicity of his message did not leave anyone wondering about our new pope’s first priority.
Argentina’s status in the world has been enlarged by a man who will follow the footsteps of St. Peter.
Pope Francis will set an example of simplicity and frugality. Las Americas are blessed to have a pope from this part of the world.
I will always remember the day to enjoy a moment in history. Pope Francis is with us! Gracias a Dios!
