In the last several weeks we have seen another illustrious example of the failure of both the Republicans and Democrats to achieve progress and work with any competence toward solutions.
Approval ratings for our elected officials and, in particular, the House are abysmal; yet many of them are re-elected repeatedly and some have been serving for decades. The old adage of repeating the same behaviors but expecting a different result rings very true for most Americans and sadly, most Catholics, because we fail to vote out the incumbents.
Party loyalty to either party of this now “ruling class” of elected officials that have diminished our rights over the last 12 years, attacked the dignity of the human person and perpetuated protracted war is suicide. I pray that all Americans recognize our dilemma and engage in recycling our leaders every election until they can regain our trust.
